While we are on the topic of coaching, here’s some interesting data that we collected from the renowned International Coaching Federation. Their annual 2020 Global Coaching Study gives an insight into the global trends in the field of coaching.
According to the report, the respondents fall under the following categories:
1. Coach practitioners: External, Internal, and both
2. Managers/Leaders using coaching skills – Human resources/talent developers, manager/director or manager/leader who uses coaching skills
Key findings from the report
3. Almost 74% of managers/leaders claim that they will enroll in additional training in the next 12 months. Of 4. these, 52% want to improve coaching skills and the rest want to become coach practitioners.
Managers/leaders with 200+ hours of training make up 14% in Asia.
Coach Practitioners
1. There are almost 71,000 coach practitioners globally. The number shows a 33% increase from 2015.
2. Most coach practitioners in North America are Baby Boomers (1946-1964). Millennials (1982-1996) make up 5% of coach practitioners in North America.
3. Women coach practitioners have increased from 2015-2019, especially in Asia: 52% (2015) to 59% (2019).
4. Globally women account for 68% managers/leaders using coaching skills.
5. Estimated global revenue from coaching showed a 21% increase since 2015.
6. 99% of coach practitioners claim that they are accredited with some coach-specific training.
7. Almost 94% of coach practitioners provide services such as consulting (60%), training (60%), and / or facilitation services (54%).
Six Key Findings About Managers/Leaders Using Coaching Skills
1. 61% of managers/leaders using coaching skills have a Master’s degree or a doctorate; 34% have a Bachelor’s degree.
2. More clients agree that coaches should be credentialed: from 37% to 55% in four years.
3. Almost 74% of managers/leaders claim that they will enroll in additional training in the next 12 months. Of 4. these, 52% want to improve coaching skills and the rest want to become coach practitioners.

5. Almost 48% of managers/leaders belong to professional organizations.
6. Obstacles in the coaching path: 50% say it is lack of support from senior leaders; 42% think it is the inability to measure the output of coaching, and 38% think it is the unavailability of funds.
Overall, if you look through the findings of this elaborate report, you’ll notice that there has been a rise in the number of managers/leaders using coaching skills who agree that they should be credentialed, there are more women coaches globally and most coaches offer additional services.
